At Brændgaard Physiotherapy, we have extensive experience in treating lower back pain, both acute lower back pain and long-term pain.
Most people achieve an effect on the pain already with the 1st treatment and rarely need more than 3 treatments.
Pain in the lower back can come suddenly in connection with a lift or twist of the back and is typically called lumbago, hold in the lower back or witch's shot. It may also have crept in or arise without immediate cause.Typically, the pain varies in intensity during the day or over a period of time. However, it is important to move as much as possible. Once the pain has made its debut, it can easily be provoked later and fear of worsening is often experienced.
We treat all pain related to the back.
A client comes in with lower back pain and walks quite stiffly to protect his lower back and prevent pain from the area. She has reduced movement and is afraid that something is seriously wrong. Her doctor has ruled out a prolapsed disc, but she is still scared. After a treatment, she can freely move her back and reach the floor at a leisurely pace. She is no longer afraid and the pain has subsided.
The pain can be local in the lower back or radiate down the buttocks and legs, so it looks similar sciatica pain or disc prolapse. That is why it is always a good idea to get a professional assessment. It is our experience that often the pain can be reduced after the first treatment.
You may see that your attitude is affected e.g. that your upper body is shifted to one side or that the muscles are fully stretched. It is a natural response and will change when we treat the cause of your lower back pain.
Treatment focuses on removing the cause of the muscles tensing up. In our experience, the cause of most lower back pain is a symptom of a problem elsewhere in the body. The treatment method, P-DTR used in the clinic, effectively removes those problems.
We treat your nervous system, as pain is typically a response to compensation elsewhere in the body. The brain processes impressions from the nervous system and responds to them. If the brain is misinformed, it can create inappropriate movement patterns that give you pain and wrong positions in the body. There are no kinks or twists associated with the treatment and you will typically be able to feel the effect after the first treatment.
The lower back consists of the lower 5 vertebrae. In that context, the most important muscle is the psoas (hip flexor). It originates from the lower lumbar vertebrae, runs through the pelvis and attaches to the inside of the femur, which is why it can affect both the lower back and the gait. If it is out of balance and either has too high or too low tension, it can affect the pull on the lumbar vertebrae. This and all the other muscles around the lower back, buttocks and legs are tested so that balance is achieved in the muscles around the lower back.
